|
Yamaguchi Prefecture which has a rich natural environment and is surrounded by the sea, faces the continent across from the Sea of Japan. Yamaguchi also has the sea route in Setouchi and has played an important role in the development of Japanese history and culture. There are still many undiscovered archeological and cultural artifacts that can tell the progress of history and culture here in Yamaguchi. With rapid land development, archeological investigation has increased year by year, and a great number of excavations have been found. Aiming at creating a hometown with a harmonious blend of development and preservation of cultural properties, the Yamaguchi Prefecture Archeological & Cultural Properties Center was built and is now open to the public. The center provides a special artifact investigation system with high mobility, and enormous artifacts are sorted, housed, restored and studied here. This center is expected to become one of bases of cultural activities in Yamaguchi Prefecture as well as to preserve archeological and cultural artifacts. |
